Commits and History

A commit is a saved snapshot of your project with a message explaining what changed and why.

Good commits are small and focused with a clear message ("Fix UART baud rate for 16 MHz clock"). The full history lets you:

  • see who changed what (git log, git blame),
  • compare versions (git diff),
  • undo mistakes (git revert creates a new commit that reverses an old one).

Never commit secrets such as passwords or API keys — add them to .gitignore.

Spotted a mistake or want to add detail? Suggest an improvement — Content Contributors' edits are reviewed by editors before they go live.
