Encoders and Decoders
Decoders turn an n-bit code into one of 2ⁿ outputs; encoders do the reverse.
Easy
- 3-to-8 decoder (74HC138): activates one of eight outputs — used for memory chip-select.
- BCD-to-7-segment decoder (CD4511): drives a numeric display.
- Priority encoder (74HC148): outputs the code of the highest-priority active input — used in interrupt controllers.
