Voltage
Voltage is the energy per unit charge between two points — the "push" that drives current.
Beginner
Voltage (potential difference) is the work done per unit charge moving between two points:
One volt is one joule per coulomb. Voltage is always measured between two points; when we say "the voltage at a node", we mean relative to a reference called ground (0 V).
A battery or power supply creates a voltage; current flows when a closed path (circuit) connects its terminals.
