Lockout Tagout and Safe Work

Isolate, lock, tag, test and earth before working on electrical equipment.

Easy

The basic sequence before working on a circuit:

Identify all supply sources (including backup generators, solar and UPS).
Isolate — switch off and open the isolator.
Lock and tag — fit your personal padlock and a tag with your name.
Test for absence of voltage with a proven tester (test on a known live source, test the circuit, re-test the tester).
Earth high-voltage conductors where required.

Use PPE rated for the hazard, including arc-flash protection where required. Never assume a circuit is dead because a switch is off — check it.
