Current Divider

Current splits between parallel branches in inverse proportion to their resistance.

For two parallel resistors fed with total current II:

I1=IR2R1+R2I2=IR1R1+R2I_1 = I \frac{R_2}{R_1 + R_2} \qquad I_2 = I \frac{R_1}{R_1 + R_2}

The smaller resistance takes the larger share of the current. In general, with conductances: Ik=IGk∑GI_k = I \dfrac{G_k}{\sum G}.
