Series and Parallel RLC Circuits

Combine resistors, inductors and capacitors in AC circuits and find total impedance and phase.

Series RLC:

Z=R+j(ωL−1ωC)Z = R + j\left(\omega L - \frac{1}{\omega C}\right)

The circuit is inductive when XL>XCX_L > X_C (current lags) and capacitive when XC>XLX_C > X_L (current leads).

Parallel RLC — add admittances:

Y=1R+j(ωC−1ωL)Y = \frac{1}{R} + j\left(\omega C - \frac{1}{\omega L}\right)

Draw the impedance triangle (RR, XX, ZZ) to visualise the phase angle.
