UPEEC (“we”, “us”) runs upeec.org, the Universal Community for Programming, Electronics & Electrical. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We process personal data in line with India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
1. Who we are
UPEEC is an online community operated from Rajasthan, India (Udyam Reg. No. UDYAM-RJ-11-0092816). For any privacy question or request, email office@upeec.org.
2. What we collect
- Account details: your name and email address. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and profile picture from Google. We never receive your Google password.
- Profile details you choose to add: username, headline, bio, college, LinkedIn and website links.
- What you create: news stories, Knowledge Library submissions, community posts, comments, likes and saves.
- Roles and progress: the roles you apply for or hold, approvals, your progress and the certificates you earn.
- Events: your RSVPs and attendance records (for example, minutes on an event's live check-in page or an attendance code you entered).
- Referrals: if you joined through a Campus Ambassador's link, we record who referred you.
- Email preferences and a record of which notifications we have emailed you.
- Payments (when plans are offered): plan and payment status. Card, UPI and bank details are handled by our payment provider, not stored by us.
- Technical data: sign-in session cookies and basic server logs (such as IP address and browser type) kept by our hosting providers for security.
3. Why we use it
- To create and secure your account and let you sign in.
- To run the community: show your posts and profile, review submissions, track role progress and issue certificates.
- To send you emails about events (announcements, reminders, recordings), the Daily News digest, replies, approvals and certificates.
- To moderate the community, prevent spam and abuse, and enforce our Terms of Service.
- To process purchases of paid plans, when available.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
4. What is public
- Your name, profile picture, profile details and the content you publish (stories, posts, comments) are visible to other visitors.
- Certificates are public by design: anyone with a certificate ID or QR code can open its verification page, which shows your name, the certificate title, dates and ID.
- Your email address is never shown publicly.
5. Service providers we use
We share data only with providers that help us run UPEEC, and only as needed:
- Supabase: database, sign-in and file storage.
- Vercel: website hosting.
- Resend: sending email.
- Google: “Sign in with Google”, if you choose it.
- Razorpay: payment processing, when paid plans are offered.
- LinkedIn: only if you click “Share on LinkedIn” or “Add to LinkedIn”, which opens LinkedIn with the details you choose to share.
Some of these providers may store data on servers outside India.
We may also disclose data if required by law.
6. Cookies
We use only the cookies needed to keep you signed in, plus one short-lived cookie (up to 30 days) that remembers a Campus Ambassador referral code until you sign up. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
7. Your choices and rights
- Edit your profile any time on your account page.
- Turn optional emails off in email settings or with the unsubscribe link in any optional email. Account emails (sign-in, approvals, certificates) are always sent.
- You can ask us to access, correct or delete your personal data, or withdraw your consent, by emailing office@upeec.org. If you delete your account, certificates already issued may be revoked.
- If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
8. How long we keep data
We keep your data while your account is active. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data, except where we must keep some records to meet legal obligations, resolve disputes or prevent abuse.
9. Children
UPEEC is meant for students and professionals. If you are under 18, you may use UPEEC only with the consent of a parent or legal guardian.
10. Security
Data is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Access to your data is restricted by database security rules, so members can only see what they are allowed to. No system is perfectly secure; if you think your account has been compromised, contact us right away.
11. Changes
We may update this policy. We will change the “Last updated” date above, and tell signed-in members about significant changes.
