Superposition Theorem
In a linear circuit, the response to several sources is the sum of the responses to each source acting alone.
Easy
Procedure:
- Keep one independent source; turn off the others — voltage sources become short circuits, current sources become open circuits.
- Find the contribution of that source.
- Repeat for every source and add the results (with signs).
Superposition works for voltages and currents but not for power (power is non-linear: ). It is especially useful when sources have different frequencies, e.g. a DC bias plus an AC signal.
